I’m linking up with Lindsey for What I Wore Wednesday
Life has been busier than normal lately. Holidays, travel, work, trying to find a moment of peace and quiet. I feel as though my mind has been going through this journey, this inner struggle and it’s stretching me in ways I never imagined. I’ve found myself often struggling to find my voice here in this space and share in a real way so instead I retreat. It’s funny how easy it can become to hide within ourselves, instead of stepping out and allowing others in. I think that’s the hard part about opening yourself up online is that there’s this fear of being judged or misunderstood, or just never knowing where to begin.
In the midst of everything going on, I got a text message from one of my closest friends that I’ve made in this blogging community and she shared with me that she had a gift to send me. Of course, being the nosy ninny I am, I pried and asked her if she’d tell me what it was. She shared with me that she had released a new line of lip glosses and named one after me. The Alissa. Umm for reals?! I was blown away! I quickly went online, straight to her shop filled with lip glosses and lip sticks and there it was at the top. A red lip gloss! When I saw it that fear I’d been feeling about big things, that had now begun to manifest in small, silly things took over and I thought there was no way I could do this beauty justice. There was no way I could pull off such a bold color. Still, I couldn’t wait for it to arrive so I could try it out.
and then it arrived!
and I put it on!
It was love at first site. I know it must sound so silly, but I think somewhere in the midst of things I let self doubt take over. I played the comparison game and was letting it win, like a game of chess that began in my favor, taking a wrong turn out of nowhere. While it may just be a tube of lipgloss, I think I needed to be reminded that it’s ok to be bold and make bold decisions. It’s ok to admit when I need help and just can’t juggle it all on my own. It’s ok to take a day or two away from this space and rest my mind and my soul.
Jesus said, “come to me, you who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest.” – Matt. 11:28
Be still and know that I am God.
Just remembering these words is such a breath of fresh air. Like my lungs are reopening and I’m able to breathe. There’s nothing I accomplish by trying to juggle it all, balance it all, worry about it all. At some point I need to be bold, let go and allow God to do what he’s going to do. After all, his plans are so much greater than mine.

Thanks for letting me breathe here on this blank page. For letting me fill it with honest conviction and for continuing to visit me here. I love being on this journey with you where we can love on an encourage one another.
I hope you remember to be bold today!
Stand firm in truth and remember to exhale.
xo, Alissa

You look SO amazing in that gloss (um, and everything else!) I’m glad it pushed you outside your comfort zone a bit, because honestly – PERFECT color on you!!

I think Heather got it just right naming this bold color after you. Sometimes I think we miss confuses boldness for bitchy-ness (if I can go there for a second) But I think God calls us to be bold for him, you do that for sure Alissa!
