DIY Succulents in a Mason Jar

Every year, on the night before school starts, we have a small Back to School Eve party for our kids. We cook a fun meal together, talk about the school year, what we’re excited about, nervous about, and goals for our family for the school year. I even try to come up with a quote based from scripture that we can strive to live by during the school year. The kids loved it! It gets them geared up and ready to head back to school and instills in them an excitement to learn. This year they are both starting new schools, making it even more important for me that they were ready and excited for school to start.

It was such a great night and even though cooking homemade biscuits with the kids took my stress level to the max and left me with flour in places I never expected, dinner was so much fun!! We also made back to school gifts for their teachers together. I know, you’re probably shocked by my pinteresty-ness, right?! haha In all seriousness, including the kids as we made teacher gifts and cooked dinner actually turned out to be more fun than I expected and it allowed them to see how important spending that time together is. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about right?! Togetherness…

What you’ll need:

Mason Jars (medium size works well)
Small Succulent plants
Dirt
Water
Paper + Twine

Let’s Begin:

– Gather all your supplies and find a space to work that you don’t mind if dirt spills while you’re planting.

– Add dirt to the bottom of your mason jar, then use a pencil or chop stick to dig a little hole in the center.

– Add your Succulent to your mason jar.

– Add any other dirt around the sides if you don’t have enough around your succulent.

– Add a little bit of water to moisten the dirt around your succulent.

– Add a little note for a special touch. Ours said, “Thank you for being deeply rooted in my life this year.”

See, it’s easy!! It’s simple, and who doesn’t love to receive a gift in a mason jar??! Both of my kids gave these to their teachers on the first day of school and they went over so great! If you’re worried about cost, don’t be. Each of these costed me under $5 to make.
