My biggest struggle is always putting together outfits for when I travel. For some reason as I pack, the ability to put together outfits and predict what I’d like to wear goes out the window. I’m fashionably fickle. What I might want to wear the next day when I’m headed to bed, might be completely different in the morning. So I pack to accommodate all my potential fashion mood swings. The downside to that is often I end up with a modge podge of pieces that don’t always go together and I kick myself silently for not packing outfits vs pieces.
I’m sure none of you know what I’m talking about right now, right?
Recently I headed out on a 36 hour business trip. One day of travel, a following day filled with meetings, then hoping on another plane home meant that I was forced to fit it all in a travel on rolling suitcase. Even worse, I needed to find a way to limit how many outfits I traveled with. So rather than making it complicated, I picked one piece – the jacket – that I thought would be comfy and keep me warm on the plane, but then also create a great business casual look. There ended up being windy weather where I traveled to and so the jacket ended up serving as warmth and style.
The one thing I did forget? Accessories. #facepalm.
Baby steps.

I’m starting to get pretty good and minimizing… especially for plane trips. I’m just curious how you are able to get 5 pairs of shoes on a carry on. I’ve only been able to travel with 2 pairs. I wear one on the plane and pack the other. I can’t seem to pack enough clothes and fit hygiene items in if I do more shoes. Do you have any tips on how to do that?
