Growing up I lived on milk. I didn’t even need a reason to drink it, I just did. Even now, I drink a cup of milk every night before bed because it relaxes me. Now as a Mom, I’m always talking to my kids about the importance of milk and how it helps us grow up, big and strong. When they were little we would often drink to a better future with our cups of milk. As they’ve gotten older, they will drink milk in their cereal, but they don’t always prefer it over water and juice to drink during the day so I need to find ways to ensure that they get the right dose of milk each day. This means, I’ve learned to get creative about how I incorporate it into their daily lives.
Since mornings are often crazy around our home because we’re not morning people, breakfast time can sometimes feel rushed. So, I’ve taken to making them smoothies in the morning. Breakfast on the go – check. Breakfast that gives them the milk they need – double check.
Here’s what you need:
- Fresh fruit: I used strawberries, blueberries and raspberries
- ¼ cup steel oats
- 1 cup of milk (preferably whole or 2% CA milk)
- 1/3 cup of yogurt

I make these smoothies for my kids several times a week so I can help them get the milk they need in their bodies so I can help fuel their bodies.
