We arrived in Colorado Springs on a Monday and stayed through Wednesday at Great Wolf Lodge. We’ve heard so many great things about this hotel, and even have one close to home in the OC. It was almost more fun to experience it during our road trip. If you haven’t been to Great Wolf Lodge, I would say it’s a perfect getaway for families. There are activities for kids, including an indoor water park, a ropes course, miniature golf, bowling and so much more.
The water park has attractions for all ages, from a kiddie pool, to slides for younger kids and then the giant slides for the older kids. There are plenty of chairs and tables for parents to relax and enjoy while your children are off having fun. I was most impressed with the lifeguards and how vigilant they were. There are no distractions and they’re constantly making sure that each person is safe in the water.
From Colorado Springs we headed to Boulder, CO, and actually spent the night with good friends of ours in Niwot who just moved to Colorado a few months ago.
Day 10: We spent the next day at Boulder Creek with friends of ours from the OC who are exploring Boulder for 5 weeks this summer. The kids loved playing in the creek together and the adults enjoyed relaxing and chatting while the kids played. I love when we get to see friends on the tip because the kids love having other kids to play with.
From Boulder we headed to Breckenridge, CO. We had heard so many wonderful things about this town. I wish I could say more, but besides the Crepe Cart, I left Breckenridge disappointed. Not only did it rain so we weren’t able to see much, but they close the gondola early so we missed the chance to ride it before the rain and our hotel situation was a bit of a disaster.
Vail is where I really wanted to head. I visited there many years ago and fell in love with the town so I was excited we were driving through there on our way to Moab. The only downfall was that it was also raining there so we weren’t able to get out and walk around. We did, however, stop at Fire Station No 2 to see if Ryan Sutter was still working. Any Bachelorette fans out there?! Turns out that Ryan had retired 3 weeks earlier so the closest we got was the seat in the fire truck he once sat in.
Thank you to the Vail Fire Station for humoring me and inviting us in for a tour! Y’all are seriously the best!!
Next stop… Moab, UT, to visit Arches National Park.
