A Holiday Gadget You Must Own! {A Review}

 As many of you already know, I’m a HUGE advocate for Dropcam. Kyle was at the tech convention where they initially launched and he loved the concept so much that he bought the very first model. Dropcam is a video monitor that allows you to monitor your home, child or pet via wifi from anywhere in the world. I truly wish I would’ve had one of these when Katelyn and Brayden were little. We hated every video monitor on the market because the visual quality was junk. Enter the Dropcam…..

The Set Up

Look at how easy it is to set up. Simply plug it in and give it a minute to grab your wifi signal. You’ll see a flashing red light as it locates your wifi (see above) and then once connected, it’ll flash a green light. From there you can monitor all activity from your laptop or even download the app and monitor on the go. I really love how it’s small enough that I’m able to hide it on my fireplace mantle and it’s not hugely noticeable. The picture frame above is a 5×7 and the Dropcam is smaller, so it gives you a good idea of just how easy it would be to “hide” in your home amongst your decor. 

We use our Dropcam to monitor our home when we travel, sometimes I use it to peek in on my family when I’m traveling because I miss them so much! We actually own 3 Dropcam’s (I kid you not), one of which faces our back yard play set and that’s the one I have my eye on, especially during the summer time when I’m cooking dinner because it’s still light out.

Another great feature of the brand new model of the Dropcam is that you can see when the most of activity is happening in your home and actually have the ability to go back, even days later and see what was going on. When I went back and checked our camera recently, I noticed activity at 4am. Come to find out it’s one of our littles sleep walking to the bathroom to go potty. I had no idea! 

Last weekend we had our Pollinate Media Group team Christmas celebration weekend and above you can see where everyone is walking around getting ready to leave for the concert. How fun is that?! I love that now I can keep track of all my activity, especially during times I wouldn’t expect there to be any. This really helps me to feel safer in my own home.

Remember how I mentioned I had 2 other Dropcam’s? Well we have one monitoring the playroom and backyard and then another monitoring the play set. These are the older Dropcam model and you can really see all the improvement’s they made in terms of visibility, clarity and field of view to the new one. It’s pretty amazing!!
