I love this time of year. While I know the hustle and bustle of fitting in last minute shopping, getting your Christmas cards ordered and decorating your home begins to take over your life, I find solace in the joy of knowing that this time of year is all about family. Not that we don’t spend time with family or even as a family during the rest of the year, but the holidays really remind me just how precious these moments are and Kyle and I often look for ways to surprise the kids with intentional activities we can all do together.
It’s very rare that we travel far during the holidays, but this year my Papa is turning 93 on Christmas Eve and we will be heading east to bare the cold weather to celebrate with him. After we booked our tickets, my Mom called with this great idea to take the kids on the Polar Express to the “North Pole” to see Santa on Christmas Eve. Ummmm, trains, Santa and new matching family pj’s…. sold! I’m so excited and I’m dying to tell the kids, but I’m keeping it a secret because there’s no way they will pay attention for the next 2 weeks in school if I tell them now.
I feel like they are both growing up so fast these days. I take so many pictures of them every day, yet it never fails, the moment I sit down to edit them, there a feature I haven’t noticed, or one of them looks taller, older, it reminds me just how special each of these pictures are. When I began blogging I hoped to leave a life legacy of our family for my kids and I can’t help but feel like these moments captured on camera is a testament to that. Just look at how much these two love each other. #meltsmyheart
I once had a friend say that as her children grew up she and her husband would tell them daily, sometimes hourly that their family is their best friends. She and her husband told their children that no matter what was going on in life, whether they disagreed with one another, were struggling in school or even learning how to play together in a family of 4 children that they were best friends and should remember that. I really took that story to heart. Katelyn and Brayden were young at the time, but her words stuck with me and as they got older I began referring to them as best friends. I think it stuck because these two love each other fiercely. They look out for one another, play together, share together and fondly call each other their best friends.
In the past I’ve grown up with a tradition where each year we would purchase a new children’s book with a Christmas theme to read on Christmas Eve. This year our family of best friends is starting a new tradition to add onto the one we already have and that’s having matching pajama’s. There’s nothing more special that sitting together, reading our Christmas story in matching pajama’s enjoying the love and laughter of the season. This year we received our matching jammies from Chasing Fireflies. They have an awesome variety of colors, designs and styles and they can all be customized with your name on them. How fun is that?

Stop it right now. This is adorable. I am now determined to get matching PJ’s for my kids next Christmas. We occasionally match the twins – because how can you not? – but I’ve never thought of matching all three of them… and by the Christmas tree! Genius.
