I just returned home from BlogHer in New York, which has by far been the biggest “jungle” I’ve been too. At least since I was in younger and living in Southeast Asia. For me, traveling is not as daunting as the process of packing. I spend hours agonizing over how to create the perfect outfit from head to toe for each day I’m gone. World Market, one of my favorite places to shop, is giving away a trip for 2 to go on an African Safari so I thought it would be fun to share some “safari” themed packing and traveling tips with you.
{TIP ONE} Travel Comfortably
Figuring out what to wear when you’re headed on a trip is so important. And you can do this while still dressing cute and fashion forward. Take a cute pair of jeans and tee, pair them with a scarf and some cute accessories and voila, you’ve taken an otherwise casual outfit and “dressed” it up. Is your outfit still comfortable? Yes, but now you feel as though you can take off and arrive putting your best foot forward for everyone you’ll encounter along the way.
I also try to make sure the outfit I pick to wear works with the bulkiest pair of shoes I’m bringing. In this case, my knee high boots. These babies will take up a lot of space in the suitcase, causing me to have to leave a possibly, much needed outfit at home.
Did you know that you can change the whole look of your outfit by simply tucking in a tiny piece in the front or on the side to create the high/low effect? Makes a world of difference if you ask me.

{TIP TWO} Don’t Be Afraid to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
When planning outfits for your trip, don’t be afraid to try out some new color combinations and outfit options. I found this shirt at Anthroplogie a while back and have always been nervous about how to style it, yet I love that it’s the perfect top for a “wild” girls night out with friends, or even a wild night out with my husband on Safari. So I’ve started branching out and finding new ways to wear it. One of my favorites is with skinny jeans and wedges. When I first began wearing this top I wore it untucked, but look at how much cuter it looks when I tuck in the front just slightly to create that high/low effect I talked about in tip one.
Then add in a some wild accessories and you’re ready for a night out on the town.

{TIP THREE} Pack in Outfits and Bring Layers
When you pack to go on an extended trip, pack in outfits. Think about the kinds of things you like to wear everyday and pack accordingly. And always style your outfits in layers. For example, even though I was going to New York and it was going to be hot and humid while I was there, I knew that I would be attending sessions indoors and there was the potential that the rooms would be cold so I packed sweaters for every outfit. That smart thinking paid off as there were several times I needed that sweater. Same goes for any other trip you might take. You can always remove a layer, but you can’t add one if you didn’t pack it.
I think this outfit would be my favorite for a day in the jungle scoping out some wild animals. Boots, layers and a touch of color… my kind of outfit!

Love these tips! Such cute outfits. When I traveled to China my main staple was a white tee and I used scarves, sweaters and accessories as a way to change up my outfit. It was the perfect way to travel! Popping over from the Pleated Poppy.
